How to Stay Healthy & Fit as the Season Changes

    Last Updated On 25-10-2018

The changing season always brings hope for something new. The fresh rain after a hot summer, the warm spring after winter’s chill. However, with seasonal changes, common colds, viral fevers and allergies also arrive as unwelcome guests. Fortunately, there are several ways with which to ward them off and enjoy the wonders each season brings.

    1. Get some precious “me-time”
Seasonal changes often create a change in routine. Some calm moments of meditation or even reading a relaxing book can help you to unwind and find those precious moments for yourself.

Enjoying some solitude will make sure your stress and fatigue levels are at bay. Get plenty of rest, prepare yourself for the time change and enjoy the season’s changes as they arrive.
    2. Plan a pleasurable exercise regime
Exercise helps to flush out toxins, gets the heart pumping and keeps unhealthy bacteria at bay. Even more, people who exercise daily are less prone to illnesses. The American Heart Organisation recommends at least minutes 75 minutes per week of vigorous aerobic activity, or a combination of brisk walking and aerobic exercises, preferably spread throughout the week to make sure you have a healthy heart.

Take your best friend along for that morning walk or play your favourite relaxing music during a yoga session. Once you find pleasure in these moments; come rain or hail you will ensure that you exercise!
    3. Fight against germs gently
While washing hands frequently we may be wiping out beneficial bacteria for our body. Thus, we would be reducing our immunity, making us vulnerable to catching an infection during seasonal changes.

Next time, try a gentle home remedy before reaching for antibiotics. Use regular soap and water rather than a sanitiser. Homemade cleaners are also very effective and reduce the chances of allergies. These easy methods can keep your surroundings clean without compromising your immunity.
    4. Eat seasonal food
Pick fruits and vegetables that are seasonal, local and fresh. When fruits and vegetables are picked for consumption that have been naturally ripened on the vine or the tree and harvested at the right time, it will have much more flavour and nutrition. This will boost your immunity and keep those seasonal maladies away. Load up on brightly coloured fruits and veggies. These delicious foods offer vitamins, folates and minerals that strengthen your immunity.

Opt for healthy snacks like nuts, seeds and dry fruits which can keep you well guarded against infections. Probiotics like plain yogurt are great for the gut. And if you are a non-vegetarian, fatty fish and eggs are excellent for the immune system too.
    5. Restore yourself
Sleep is one of the most important elements in a healthy lifestyle. 7 to 8 hours of sleep every night are essential for the body to restore and revive its immunity. A calm and restful evening regime goes a long way in ensuring a good night’s sleep. By sleeping and waking at the same time, despite seasonal changes, you maintain a good rhythm for your body.

Remember in the end, by respecting your body’s rhythms you are taking healthy steps towards a fulfilling lifestyle. Maintain a balance between work and home, eat healthy, keep fit and take measures to safeguard your peace of mind so that you can easily face the next seasonal change that comes along. Apart from taking the above steps to safeguard your family through seasonal change, having a health insurance plan will also make sure your finances are safe in case of medical emergencies. With a little more focus on self-care, you can stay a step ahead and be healthy all year-round.
