Pune: As many as over 1000 skilled shuttlers from across the city impressed the audience with their performance on the final day of the PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship.

The Pune leg of Season 4 of the tournament concluded today at Poona District Metropolitan Badminton Association, bringing out top 16 shuttlers from the city.

In the Boys Singles U-15 category, Prathmesh Kulkarni defeated Suveer Pradhan with score 15-14, 13-15, 15-6. In Girls Singles U-15 category, Aesha A Gandhi defeated Madhura Patwardhan with score 7-15, 15-13, 15-14. 

Mr. Nipun Kaushal, Chief Marketing Officer, PNB MetLife said, “JBC as a tournament has grown to become one of the biggest annual national open-platform’s for young badminton enthusiasts. Pune has given us a tremendous response, with over 1000 participants. We hope to continue the momentum in other cities.  I want to congratulate the winners who showed such passion in their performance. We wish them all the best for the finale at New Delhi.”

Gracing the closing ceremony, Mr. Anna Natu, Senior Vice President at Poona district and Metropolitan Badminton Association as the Chief Guest on the occasion said, “It has been a privilege to have witnessed athletic performances of the highest quality over the course of this tournament. I am honoured to be associated with PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship as it provides a good platform for our young athletes, and helps them achieve excellence. I would like to wish success to every participant and congratulate today’s winners, for the rest of the tournament.”

PNB MetLife has partnered with the CRY Foundation as CSR Partner for this initiative. The objective is to use sports as an effective medium of empowerment for children and helping them undergo a transformational change. The competition helps in nurturing the right talent at an amateur level, thereby fostering their growth and ability to perform on a global scale. 

The next leg of this year’s championship is scheduled from 6th July in Mumbai and 8th July in Kolkata.
