Chandigarh: As many as 42 skilled shuttlers from across the city impressed the audience with their performance on the final day of the PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship.

The Chandigarh leg of Season 4 of the competition concluded today at Sports Complex, Sector 43 A, bringing out top 16 shuttlers from the city.

In the Boys Singles U-15 category, Anshul Budhwar from Chandigarh defeated Gagan from Chandigarh with score 15-6, 16-14. In Girls Singles U-15 category, Devika Sihag from Chandigarh defeated Anupama Upadhyaya from Chandigarh with score 13-15, 15-11, 15-6. 

Mr. Nipun Kaushal, Chief Marketing Officer, PNB MetLife said, “JBC as a tournament has grown to become one of the biggest annual national open-platform’s for young badminton enthusiasts. The budding shuttlers from the planned city have put up a remarkable show with their spirited performances. The kind of enthusiasm we have seen in the past three days is a promising start to this edition of JBC. We hope to continue the momentum in other cities. I want to congratulate the winners who showed such passion in their performance. We wish them all the best for the finale at New Delhi.”

Gracing the closing ceremony, Mr. Kawaldeep Singh, State Badminton Champion and Chief guest on the occasion said, “PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship has been a huge success over the years and a breeding ground for the gen-next badminton stars. The overwhelming response from the city, will further bolster badminton’s growth and popularity in India. I am glad that with JBC, PNB MetLife has emphasised on the importance of sports for the holistic development of children. One of the major issues at this stage is the lack of recognition and encouragement for sports. This platform helps fill this void by providing ample recognition to each and every participant in the fest.”

This platform by PNB MetLife, with the CRY Foundation as CSR Partner, aims to revive the spirit of the sport by nurturing the right talent at an amateur level, thereby fostering their growth and ability to perform on a global scale. 

The next leg of this year’s championship is scheduled from June 24 in Bangalore.
